Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This page answers common questions regarding the Sparkle fan server project, server development status, save data preservation, and community contributions.

General Project Questions

What is Sparkle?

Sparkle is the project name for the KRFN fan server emulator. The project name derives from the word "Kirara" (きらら), which evokes the Japanese sound-symbolic word kirakira (きらきら), meaning "sparkle" in English.

Is the Sparkle server source code open source?

Yes! The server source code is open source, and you can self-host the server locally. Tutorials and self-hosting documentation are available for community members:

Development & Server Status

How is the fan server progressing?

Almost all official game assets and media have been archived, including:

  • Application binaries & Asset bundles
  • Official websites, API responses, Twitter media, and YouTube videos

Current key development tasks include:

  • Recreating the KRFN API endpoints.
  • Building custom launchers, account management tools, and portal websites.

Note

Server emulation requires significant reverse engineering and development effort. Progress is ongoing, but full parity takes time.

When will a specific feature be released?

Development is conducted as a personal hobby project during spare time outside of regular work hours.

Everything needed to contribute is publicly available. If you would like to see a specific feature added, community contributions—even a single line of code—are greatly welcomed!

Tip

Avoid asking "When will feature X arrive?" in community channels, as responding to recurring ETA requests diverts maintainer time away from active development.

Save Data & Account Setup

Can I continue playing Kirafan without taking any action?

If you want to keep your original account progression, you must extract your save data from the offline client application.

Which device is needed to play? Will non-rooted Android devices be supported?

Please refer to the Setup and Installation Guide for updated hardware and client environment requirements.

Translations, Custom Content & Reverse Engineering

Will fanmade translations, custom scenarios, or full quest unlocks happen?

  • Primary Focus: Server API recreation remains the top priority.
  • Client Encryption: The KRFN client app utilizes heavy encryption. Core client encryption mechanisms were successfully analyzed (thanks to community member Kirima Sharo), but automated asset modification tools are still under development.
  • Contributions Wanted: If you have experience with mobile app reverse engineering or building utility tools, your assistance is highly appreciated!
